Is it ever stated how Mrs. Tanner died? Could it be suicide? That would be the logical conclusion, but I think they state at some point she was killed by a drunk driver in a car accident.

It was only implied that she passed from an automobile accident until much later in the series' run. In the episode where Kimmy gets drunk, and D.J. takes her to the Full House, and takes care of her. Kimmy gets pissed at D.J. about how she salted her game, and D.J. is like "Look, bitch! My mom died by a drunk driver, so I had to save your skinny, ginger ass!"
That is where it came from.

Is DJ's claim the only mention of it then? Because that's pretty thin evidence--I could definitely see DJ just making it up to make Kimmy feel bad for having once again had a good time despite DJ's presence.
If Kimmy had bumped into Danny shortly afterwards and said 'hey Mr. T I just found out about how your wife died from a drunk driver or whatever, that's so sad' he would have been like 'what are you talking about? My wife held a mouthful of water and then put a gun barrel between her lips and pulled the trigger, because since water can't be compressed, the expansion of the gases from the bullet made her head explode and she left a note that said I hate my life in the full house and I hate my oldest daughter's ass face.'

first of all, fuck you forever for making me debate full house trivia with you on a message board. this is the lowest of lows for me. i do not want to be able to correct you and am deeply, deeply ashamed that i'm going to do it anyway. BUT! i knew that the drunk driver thing probably already happened because i know about it and im only on season 5. i thought i mighta read it on wikipedia but then i checked the old review for season 2, episode 18, where joey gave away stephanies dead mom bear. THAT, my friends, is the episode where we find out about the drunk driver mom killer. Sadly, i am the winner of this debate. my reward is that you have to buy a Full House Reviewed shirt.

Do you think this is what any of us want? Do you think anyone enjoys doing this? You're not the only one jumping into a pool of shit here, so don't act like you're the only one entitled to a shower. I'm not posing these questions for my own health. People don't drink their way to the bottom of a barrel of diarrhea because it just tastes that good; they do it because they have the audacity to hope that maybe when they get to the bottom, they might just find some modicum of truth and understand why the full house had to happen.
So, that said: was it ever explicitly ruled out that Joey wasn't the drunk driver? Surely the dynamic between him and the others in the full house would have been different if this was the case, but is it possible?
Maybe the full house is Joey's Sartre-esque personal hell to eternally suffer the consequences of killing Mrs. Tanner? But would that make sense with he himself being such a core factor in it being such a nightmare?

What they never tell you is that the drunk driver WAS Mrs Tanner

What they never tell you is that the drunk driver WAS Mrs Tanner And that's why Deej was so against booze at the middle school dance. Her mom was a raging alky and she didn't want to end up like her. I like this theory.
